Calypso of 1928 - a purveyor’s reincarnation, maiden voyage spring 2019

Calypso of 1928

This is a story of triumph, and the resilient nature of the golden age of 1920’s bespoke construction. Following a revival that all started in the spring of last year, we approach the final-final of our most advantageous revival since 2006.

last winter we embarked on pow-pow, her sister ship next door, which gave us a trial run into the renovation of art deco boxcar apartments.

(all actual photos are of our fantastic enthusiast stewards interior in pow pow next door - blog story of that purveyor adventure here)

Held captive by absentee ownership for nearly three decades, her vital organs were badly brutalized. A definitive example of the prowess of clean design, executing the fundamentals that turn any average classic into a champion of period architecture.

calypso is a true worst-to-first comeback story, her years of sorrow have turned quickly at the hands of design in rare form (DRF).

The rebirth features all of the modern cozy desires that are non-existent in vintage apartments:

  • available in two distinct design moods: french traditional & scandi contemporary

  • floorplan framing amendments with deco archways into the common area for social bonding

  • restored period shaker butlers cabinetry walls, striped and restored in matte lacquer & glass enamel

  • peninsula of honed marble over inset custom milled birch cabinetry with modern drawer banks

  • we-work converted creative suites wrapped floor to ceiling in curated wallpaper over blu-dot desk suites

  • heated spa like baths with antique porcelain sinks fabricated to modern bath functionality

  • rear entry mudrooms with storage lockers for northern seasonality

  • european appliances, energy efficient on-site laundry, new anderson windows

  • restored private garages with evening down lighting behind cedar wrapped greenspace

The concepts above are being executed as we speak! outside of euro lighting and custom tile lead times, all design elements are falling in line!

one of our units is already spoken for, leaving three remaining for spring occupancy!

Adam’s apartment below is furnished with terrific pieces, his personal style and knack for space planning is uncanny! He is a sudden graduate of our classic home purveyor camp, waiting patiently for his first pure vintage restoration.

the floor-plan is exact replica of calypso, only alterations are kitchen layout was improved for flow and counter-space and overall depth of the design, which deidre took the gloves off for her french and scandi themes!

a must have for any kitchen investment, ductwork runs outside through our vent-a-hood— this is a must for protecting, and rationalizing a fully custom kitchen inside a rental property. ensuring protection for many years

grease outside, fine-finishes inside.
