Madison to Nokomis: The Adams Tudor
Adam & Adam (affectionately known as "the Adams") called us in April. They were making big professional moves from Madison to the Twin Cities. One of them was finishing his Masters in Nursing while the other was completing medical school and beginning the grueling 7 year surgical residency at the University of MN. Their goals were simple: a classic home in S. Mpls with charm and character. They were hoping to find something that had been somewhat modernized and updated, as they didn't have time with their crazy overnight shifts to commit to renovations.
We hit the home tours hard as their 4 hour drive and limited schedules only allowed for a few dates of showings before their inevitable move. After two houses came close to the mark, but had offers during our showings, the Adams caught on quickly - the spring market is hot and they needed to act immediately if they were going to secure a home they liked. They even went as far as to call us up, have us tour a Linden Hills bungalow and offer for them - sight unseen!
When they lost out on that home, the search tightened and they found a great contender in Hale. While we wrote up the offer - 5641 popped up on the MLS. 2 blocks from Nokomis, beautiful yard, and impeccably modernized for their taste. It was the sure winner. We switched gears, wrote immediately, and got lucky that it was a holiday weekend and had no competitors.
Their Nokomis tudor is an incredibly rare property. Stately and beautiful, original tiered crown molding, hardwoods, and a grand staircase - a true testament to it's 1931 birth year. The modern appointments are stunning for a young urban couple looking for a city loft taste in a classic home. Sleek cabinetry, white walls to showcase art, new glass doors, and high gloss finishes round out the main living area.
The bathrooms maintain consistent style with the kitchen and the glass tiles are classic in shape, yet bring an airy urban feel to the space. A main floor half bath is a perfect addition to accomodate dinner parties while the basement bathroom is great for overnight guests.
The upstairs has three generous bedrooms - a very rare find in our typical 1.5 story tudors - and a walk in laundry area. While this is convenient, the Adams plan to bring the laundry back to the basement and convert this light filled room into a study. Just to the right is a door that walks out onto a rooftop deck - perfect for the summer cocktail party.
The basement has a working fireplace and just enough space to enjoy some personal time or house guests. A well-appointed S. Mpls basement is perfect for small additions to square footage for long term livability.
The backyard was picture perfect for these healthcare heroes. A 2 car attached garage with a yard is simply unheard of near Nokomis. Modern fencing, a paver patio, rooftop deck, and just enough yard space for a future pooch is exactly what these homeowners were looking for.
Our S.Mpls homes come in all shapes and sizes. We sure love the preserved finishes, but finding a rare gem that has a modern twist is a treat for us at Rare Form. Many buyers love marrying their urban tastes with their desire for a classic home - so we search high and low to find that perfect fit.
Congratulations to Adam and Adam - we hope Minneapolis becomes a great home for you!
