Boho Bungalow of 1921

This is our second pass with the Boho Bungalow.

“There’s something in every woman that wants a boho bungalow.”

Growing up, magazine quizzes try to tell you your “style,” whether it’s posh, retro, minimalistic or boho. They’re corny and reductive, but I always got boho. Maybe because I was raised by a mom who schooled me in every detail about every Beatles song while teaching me how to draw portraits of long-haired ladies. Leaving this house, I’m glad to say it has come to embody that boho bungalow feeling: low-key, easy, breezy and a canvas for the weird and wild people who come through.

The former design maven’s bungalow- Deidre & Ryan Webster crafted this attic suite, and main floor space throughout.

She is live at $449,999: the design to sell process proves worthy again, strong candidates presented offers within moments of listing!

ATTIC MASTER BATH AND BEDROOM

With sloped ceilings an attic master bath is always a design challenge. The existing bathroom included a small vanity and toilet. This couple wanted to add a shower and walk-in closet.

Following code requirements meant the shower conversion would not pass. The simple fix was not quite possible and they ended up needing to expand the bathroom beyond their initial vision.

I hate going to bed with cold feet. The heated tile floors are my favorite part of the whole thing. We thought it would be as simple as converting the existing closet into a shower and hanging some shelves.

Upping the Entry Appeal

Steve urged us to unearth the wood hidden under paint on the front porch. We didn’t get the big deal, but did it anyway and it’s my favorite change to the house. It makes it feel very organic and calming.

Brightening Up the Kitchen

Many meals were concocted and served out of that kitchen, farro risotto, attempts at fancy steak, three-layer birthday cakes. We loved it as is, but took Steve’s advice on adding a backsplash and some LED lights. It elevated the kitchen and made it easier to see every detail of cooking. Plus the Fisher Paykel dish drawer was fun.

Looking beyond the pink tile, (Deidre Webster demo’d a pink bathroom before she became a deco bath conservationist) flower wallpaper boarder and Oak cabinet to see this bathroom’s potential was key when buying this grandma special. With good bones and a 9’ high ceiling, the design had the perfect backdrop for a modern makeover.

With the right design and the owner’s handyman skills, this couple was able to fully demo and rebuild this bathroom on their own.

The Neighborhood

Our east Nokomis/ Minnehaha neighborhood offered the Falls (Sea Salt, Dairy Queen!), Bull’s Horn, Town Hall Tap and easy access to the light rail. I got into running in this house and probably ran around lake Nokomis at least 30 times. I am going to miss jogging through the sites here so much. Plus, our neighbors are awesome, including the woman behind us in the alley who turned a diseased tree into a majestic stargazing platform. Definitely check that out.
