Acquired from a three decade owner by loving purveyors. The Cardinal served as a staple growth phase property for a young family and their home-based business. Seeking an owner occupant duplex with a flexible space for their entrepreneurial ventures was the aim of our search over five years ago. The owners resided in the upper unit for 4 years and executed a really well done period correct revision that focused on highlighting the trimmings of their craftsman double bungalow. Phased in sections the work began with hardwoods and millwork throughout the upper unit, while plaster restoration and electrical scope came shortly after to provide a fresh take on the 1925 craftsman interior.
The owners took a pause for 18 months to focus on their importing business, relocating its shipping and receiving center to the Cardinal’s garden level apartment, making for a family band atmosphere with living and business operations under the same roof. Following the success of their company launch and news of a new baby joining the family, a modernization of the shaker kitchen took priority with the range wall and venting for cooking. Maintaining the original birch cabinetry kept the period scarcity of the Cardinal intact. Finishes were selected in natural marble counters with large drawer banks flanking the cook’s range.
We present this building to owner occupant and investors alike with an occupied main floor unit that is presently month-to-month with the restored upper awaiting new owners, and the basement garden suite awaiting the finishing touches of the new owner. Send us an email or text to schedule a tour. Congrats to our sellers on their wonderful tenure, another story of purveyors departing classic architecture in a better place than when they acquired it.
